I am a volunteer (co)moderator of @twitter_ph or Twitter Philippines, a Twitter-owned language community account for the Philippines and Filipinos. It is intended to help the Twitter Translation Center’s Filipino language community and remains focused on that purpose. Since its launch in 2011, it has also taken on an inadvertent role of helping disaster rescue and relief operations in typhoon-target-prone Philippines, disseminating information tweeted and retweeted by Filipino netizens, journalists, news agencies, humanitarian aides and the Philippine government during disasters, the most devastating of which was the super typhoon Haiyan.

In the past year, Twitter_Ph has undergone changes. But prior to these changes, Twitter_Ph has been tweeting about Filipinos and the Philippines, as a way of keeping the followers tuned in to the account, in between disaster cycles.
UPDATE: The posts from hereon are meant to help The Filipino (Tagalog)-speaking/reading Twitter user. The views and information posted here, except for the obvious linked sources, are my own personal content, based on my personal experience and knowledge as Twitter Translation Center Filipino volunteer moderator/translator and as a volunteer co-manager of @Twitter_ph. This and similar posts are intended to help Filipino-speaking/reading Twitter users. These are NOT officially part of my volunteer work at Twitter nor at the Twitter Translation Center.
The following is meant to be a backgrounder on any posts that may feature Tweets from @Twitter_ph prior to May, 2014.
One of the difficulties in keeping the attention of Twitter Philippines followers, is its lack of original content, since it was, after all, managed by less than a handful of volunteers. However, it was the the perfect venue to post curated content — tweets and other-platform posts and curations. For the most part I have used other major social media platforms to curate content:
I have four criteria that I use to post curated content:
- Be useful to Filipinos
- Be interesting to Filipinos
- Be socially relevant to Filipinos
- Be related to Twitter, the company
If any two or more of the above apply, then I considered it for posting and/or curation.
